I’m a travel writer and former food critic who has been living and travelling extensively throughout Portugal since 2018

I’m obsessed with uncovering what makes every nook and cranny of this fascinating country great, and I want to share it with you. Whether it’s local traditions, artisans, regional foods or just a nice spot to relax, I’m full of recommendations and hidden gems for curious travellers coming to Portugal.

Who should book a Portugal travel consultation?

Anyone planning a trip to Portugal! Whether you’re planning a solo adventure, romantic trip or family vacation, I can help you curate a tailored Portugal itinerary to fit your needs and budget.

I can…

  • Build your dream trip from scratch
  • Give feedback on your draft Portugal itinerary
  • Brainstorm ideas or help design your itinerary route
  • Offer hotel, tour and activity suggestions
  • Discuss logistics and bonus stops to maximise your time
  • Share my extensive knowledge of food and culture in Portugal
  • Give local insights and ideas to help you travel better and deeper

I have also travelled a lot through Spain and Morocco and may be able to offer suggestions or insights if you’re planning a multi-country adventure.

What's included?

50-minute video call

A private 1-on-1 video call where we can chat through your Portugal itinerary or plan your journey. I’ll give you tips and advice from a local perspective, and you can ask specific questions about logistics, neighbourhoods, culture or food in Portugal. Think of this as a session to pick my brain – come ready to ask questions.

Travel information document

A few days after our call, I’ll send through a document loaded with everything we spoke about. I’ll spend time gathering handy links for hotels and activities, guides and restaurant recommendations. I’ll spell out the name of any hard-to-pronounce town like Olhão.

Why choose Daniela Sunde-Brown?

I’m a travel journalist and former food critic who has been living in Portugal since 2018. I’ve made it my personal mission to explore the country from top to tail, learning about local food, meeting artisans and discovering the rich culture and heritage along the way.

Beyond the usual, I can add a rich layer of unusual ideas, obscure dishes, ancient crafts and local festivals to your plans.

How does a Portugal travel call work?

  1. Schedule a 50-minute call using my calendar.
  2. Check your email for details to make a payment and confirm the booking.
  3. Send over your draft itinerary, notes, or questions, and answer my very short questionnaire.
  4. Let’s chat all things Portugal!
  5. After the call, I’ll send follow-up notes with links, destination names and suggestions so you can start booking your dream trip.

FAQs

What can I ask Daniela about?

Anything related to travel in Portugal! How many days should you spend in Porto? Is Pena Palace ~really~ worth fighting the crowds for? How do I get from A to B? Where should I go for the best seafood rice? Can I recommend a special restaurant for your final night? Can I suggest small towns for a relaxed stay? What regional dishes should I try in the Algarve?

Whatever is on your mind, I will try to answer your queries – or I’ll follow up with extra research post-call.

What if I need more time?

Think of the 50-minute Portugal Travel Call as a chance to dive deep into a handful of topics. The idea is that you send over a draft itinerary OR expect some initial help with planning. With 50 minutes we can dive deep into talking about a topic like restaurants, activities or artisans, or zone in on a destination like the Alentejo region, or you can bring a bunch of random questions about logistics, neighbourhoods etc to round out your self-planned trip.

If you need more time, you can book a second session. If you want me to design your itinerary from top to bottom, day-by-day, I can offer a deeper Portugal Itinerary Design service – the fee depends on how many days your trip is. Message me to learn more.

Can you book everything for me?

Unfortunately, I cannot make bookings or reservations on your behalf. I can provide links to help you plan your dream trip, but hitting the booking button is up to you. I also can’t offer advice on visas.

Still not sure if a planning call is right for you? Send me an email hello[at]danielasundebrown[dot]com
