From classic styles to fashion trends, I’ve found a dozen women’s Portuguese shoe brands that offer premium quality for every occasion. This curated selection spans essential closet staples from butter-soft leather flats, statement platform sandals and waterproof boots to chic slingback heels and casual sneakers.

Zilian

This Portuguese footwear brand is known for its elegant and sophisticated designs, with a strong emphasis on craftsmanship and detail. You’ll find two chic boutiques in Lisbon where women can shop for everything from classic pumps to trendy sandals in changing colours, and modern designs. The majority is produced in Portugal, with some shoes made in Brazil.

Lachoix

Fátima Carvalho founded Lachoix, a women’s footwear brand focused on flat, elegant and comfortable styles, in 2018. The idea was to create loafers, ballerinas, sandals and other low‑heeled styles with a focus on comfort, versatility and refined design. All Lachoix shoes are designed and produced in limited quantities in Portugal using premium Italian materials.

MLV Shoes, a Portuguese footwear brand established in the 1960s, carries the legacy of craftsmanship and expertise through three generations of the family. Shop beautiful sandals, wedding shoes, boots, slides and more inspired by the average woman. If you have a larger shoe size, it makes a 42 in some styles.

Lemon Jelly

This Portuguese shoe brand makes gumboots and slides here in Portugal using 100% renewable energy. Of course, gumboots are made of plastic, but it does have a number of lines that close the loop on production waste and use recycled plastic waste. Lemon Jelly’s goal is to do even more environmental good, getting down to 0% waste. The brand is PETA-certified vegan, and you can send your old Lemons back to be recycled into new ones. Better yet, it has a large global footprint and is easy to find!

Softwaves

Three brothers who grew up in their father’s shoe-making factory created this brand of Portuguese-made women’s footwear. Now they make Softwaves at the family business, open since 1970, designing easy, feel-good styles that are a little out of the ordinary.

Mama Praïa

This Lisbon-based shoe atelier makes gorgeous fishermen’s sandals on a made-to-order basis. Just a dozen or so pairs of shoes leave the Campo de Ourique studio each day. Once you place your order it takes an average of four days to hand craft your shoes (though the team can do a rush 48 hours if you’re visiting the city).

Felmini

This Portuguese footwear brand was founded in 1973 and is known for its hand-crafted techniques like dip-dyeing and washing treatments, which give each pair a unique texture and one-of-a-kind colour variations. More than 50 years on, quality and craftsmanship remain at the core. Felmini shoes have a relaxed, slightly rugged aesthetic and are said to get better with wear. There’s a collection of wide-fit shoes too.

Jonak is a big French brand that produces most of its shoes at factories in São João de Madeira. The brand has been making shoes for women since 1964. It has 80 stores across France and produces around 350 models a year at fair prices for high quality. Just note: not all shoes are made in Portugal, but you can shop just Portuguese-made shoes with this link. Otherwise the descriptions online clearly state where the model is made.
